Measure the Cooler Load Before Judging a Cooling Test

Starting temperature, ambient heat, contents and lid openings determine what a prototype test actually proves.

A cooling test is only useful when the conditions surrounding it are recorded. The same device can face a very different workload in a shaded room than inside a hot vehicle or sunny campsite.

Start with the baseline. Record ambient temperature, cooler temperature, the temperature and mass of the contents, cooler size and whether the cooler was pre-chilled.

Track how the load changes. Every lid opening introduces warmer air, and every warm drink or food container adds heat that the system must remove. Those events should be timed and written down.

Use consistent measurement locations. Temperature readings taken against a cold surface cannot be compared fairly with readings taken in the centre of the food load. Repeatable sensor placement makes one test comparable with the next.

Duration matters too. A short temperature drop may reveal promising behaviour, but maintaining safe cold-storage conditions over time is a separate requirement.

FLAMECOOL remains in prototype development. Documented, repeatable testing is how observations will eventually become defensible performance, compatibility and runtime specifications.
