A Cold Cooler Still Has to Be a Wildlife-Safe Cooler
Good camping refrigeration is only half the job. Learn how to manage coolers, food, garbage and scented items without turning your campsite into a wildlife attractant.
Keeping food cold at camp matters, but refrigeration does not replace wildlife-safe food storage.
At developed campgrounds, follow the specific storage rules posted for that park or campground.
Think beyond groceries. Garbage, wrappers, dirty dishes, cookware, pet food, beverage containers, toiletries and other scented products can all attract wildlife.
Backcountry requirements vary by location. Check current rules, closures and wildlife bulletins for the exact destination.
Your cooling plan should fit inside that wildlife-safety plan.
